A unique culture.spaceship that has experienced the history of GDR deep-sea fishing and developed into a non-profit venue for alternative music and performance culture. Despite numerous challenges, the Stubnitz remains both a living, seaworthy industrial monumentand a symbol of the endurance of grassroots and non-mainstream culture. 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of Stubnitz. Since its repurposing in 1992 the Stubnitz, a non-profit mobile culture space.ship serves as a venue for live music, clubbing, performances, art exhibitions, congresses, events and much more. The ship, which is still operational, traveled to northern German and European port cities until 2013, showcasing innovative culture. The crew systematically documented the events using their own technology. With an audio and video archive that has grown to more than 7,000 concert recordings and partnerships with local, international and intercultural initiatives, the Stubnitz has contributed to the development of contemporary music culture from the very beginning. To this day, the “Kultur.Raumschiff” (culture space.ship) is a multi-award-winning venue for music culture, an interdisciplinary, participatory and socio-cultural workshop. With capacity for up to 700 people and various event rooms, it offers a unique and versatile atmosphere for a wide variety of events.
