Birgit Ulher, trompete Clayton Thomas, kontrabass (Berlin/Sydney) Gregory Büttner, Laptop Clayton Thomas is a double bassist and grass roots organiser working in the broad spectrum of improvised and experimental music.A student of master improvisers Peter Kowald, Wilber Morris and Henry Grimes, as well as Australian double bassist Andrew Meisel, Clayton has developed a vast array of extended techniques combined with extreme physicality to create a vast and infinitely malleable body of sound.Current projects include Trio AUS with Johannes Bauer and Tony Buck, Creoles with Jim Denley, Substation with Robin Fox, the homeopaths with Kai Fagachinski, Andrea Neumann and Morten Olsen, Invisible Cinema with Jean-Luc Guionnet and Axel Dorner; as well as collaborations with Werner Daffeldecker, Andy Moor, Peter Brotzmann, Christof Kurzmann, Burkhard Beins, Thomas Ankersmit, Ignatz Schick, Will Guthrie, Raed Yassir, Magda Mayas, Manon-Liu Winter, Sharif and Christine Sehnaoui, Toby Delius and DD Kern.He is also the founder of the NOW now festival of improvised music and the leader of the 30 piece electro-acoustic ensemble The Splinter Orchestra. Birgit Ulherstudierte bildende Kunst, was ihre Musik nachhaltig beeinflusste.Sie arbeitet seit den frühen 80er Jahren im Bereich der improvisierten und experimentellen Musik. Seitdem hat sie eine sehr individuelle, am Klang orientierte musikalische Sprache jenseits des 'offenen Trompetentons' entwickelt. Ihre Arbeit umfasst sowohl akustische, als auch elektroakustische Projekte, Solo-Performances und Projekte mit TänzerInnen und bildenden KünstlerInnen. Neben ihren festen Gruppen, spielt sie oft in Ad-hoc Formationen mit vielen der europäischen und amerikanischen ImprovisatorInnen. Internationale Konzerttätigkeit und CD-Veröffentlichungen, u.a. 500g, Nordzucker (mit Lars Scherzberg und Michael Maierhof), Sputter mit Gino Robair und Landscape: recoginzable mit Lou Mallozzi und Michael Zerang.
