Acte Vide (“Empty Act”) is the elusive electroacoustic duo project of Yannis Kotsonis and Danae Stefanou based in Athens. Active since 2006 as an improvisatory unit, they persistently explore noise and silence in ever-changing real-time formations, usually unrecorded, and often in ad hoc dialog with other musicians, visual artists, and directors. Yves De Mey’s music comes in many shapes, swaying from sparse to packed, and everything in between. But always with a strong focus on details, on the grains of what eventually becomes a solid entity, a resonant construction. Precise sound design and elastic rhythms are key, whether it’s in his solo work or in collaborations. Nika Son joins forces with Latvian cellist Magdalena Ceple for a special live performance. Weaving oneiric musique concrete with synthesis, knocking strings, voices, broken rhythms and modular tape, their work captures the fluid, ever-shifting nature of the night, making the familiar strange and the surreal strangely familiar.
