04.03.2026 Hörbar Exchanges I The Six Tones & Tzu-Ning Liao Kicking off the new Hörbar Exchange series! Its events open up a space for local artists from Hamburg to exchange with artists from outside Hamburg – focusing on free improvisation, experimental music and knowledge sharing. The first concert in the series will feature The Six Tones trio and the artist Tzu-Ning Liao. ➪ The Six Tones (Nguyễn Thanh Thủy, Ngô Trà My and Stefan Östersjö) will present a series of improvisations that engage with traditional Vietnamese music. Through a deconstructive approach, The Six Tones transform the structural principles of Vietnamese music – such as vibrato types or the particular intonation in a certain mode – into compositional parameters, seeking to bring new life to these ancient traditions. ➪ Tzu-Ning Liao (is an erhu player based in Hamburg and will perform three pieces): ➪➪ Real-time Collage with fragmented “Little Cabbage” for erhu and live electronics (2026), Dong Zhou: The piece unfolds as a live act of listening, recording, material generating and collaging. Fragments of the Chinese folk song “Little Cabbage” are played on the erhu, recorded and reshaped in real time. The live electronics grow from the bitter memory, transcend a personal struggle and reach an interwoven story of resilience. ➪➪ Blockade (2026), a new piece for erhu, video and audio. Jan Wegmann: Blockade is a piece about blockages. About being stuck. About stress and pressure and not moving forward. On the other hand, Blockade is perhaps also a piece about maybe-sometime-getting-free-again and about rethinking and trying things out. ➪➪ Improvisation: erhu, synthesizer and live electronics.
