Frequenzgänge #101 - Farida Amadou
Farida Amadou - e-bass solo und im Trio mit Kris Kuldkepp - double-bass Gunnar Lettow - e-bass, electronics, objects Farida Amadou is self-taught bassed in Brussels and radically aware of her idiosyncratic relationship with the bass guitar. She neither emulates the virtuosos of the electric bass, nor does she use the instrument as a pure sound generator that merely emits humming and feedback. She takes a completely independent and unique approach. This freedom enables her to create an overwhelming wall of sound, as well as simple, clear structures that are rhythmically concise yielding a wide associative space that lands somewhere between free jazz and noise. Her work is often concentrated and circular where motifs are established and developed outward. It is an organic sound in the literal sense of the word, constantly in motion, yet resting in itself. The three solo pieces she has recorded for Week-End Records emphasize her impressive ability to ignite ecstasy from tranquility, to fan out a whole range of moods from a few potent ideas. Kris Kuldkepp is an experimental musician and performance artist based in Hamburg, Germany. Kris' work investigates the perception, materiality, and behavior of sound, emphasizing its resonance within physical spaces. With a background in classical and early music performance on the double bass, Kris now works with experimental practices that incorporate improvisation, focus on singular sounds and noise. Gunnar Lettow extends the sound of the electric bass by different preparations such as spears, clips, brushes and the use of effects units and creates new universes of sound. The strongly noise orientated music moves between tiny microtonal sounds and eruptive moments. Since 2010, he has been curating the concert series Frequenzgänge. Die Reihe „Frequenzgänge“ präsentiert aktuelle Positionen der experimentellen und improvisierten Musik mit Fokus auf klangliche Grenzbereiche und erweiterte Spieltechniken.
