Harsh confrontations spark unpredictable syntheses. In three new collaborations artists come together to perform improvised live sets. Maria Bertel (Copenhagen) + Nick Klein (Berlin) Nick Klein and Maria Bertel collaborate in a interplay of electronics and brass. Maria Bertel is a Danish trombone player and composer. The acoustic sound of her amplified instrument creates an output that draws inspiration from drone and noise music. What is normally not audible reveals itself—movement, metal, and breath become swirling elements within her compositions. She collaborates with sound artist Nick Klein, whose live sets are acoustic experiments blending electronic rhythm arrangements with harsh walls of sound. He also runs the amorphous label project Psychic Liberation. Tot Onyx (Berlin) + Spooky J (Amsterdam) Tot Onyx and Spooky J fuse their raw energies in a spontaneous collision of rhythm and noise. Tot Onyx is a sound artist and performer who works with metal objects and her body. Her practice shares the principles of negation, rebellion, destruction, and détournement. Spooky J has his roots in Amsterdam’s vibrant improv scene. The Nihiloxica drummer has evolved his sound by merging live effects manipulation with drum triggers to craft intense, doom-laden dance soundscapes. David Huss (Hamburg) + Kris Kuldkepp (Hamburg) The third constellation brings together the Hamburg-based experimental musicians David Huss and Kris Kuldkepp. With a focus on singular sounds and noise, Kris’ practice incorporates improvisation, emphasizing its resonance within physical spaces. Kris works together with musician and sound designer David Huss, who explores the timbral, post-tonal, and a-rhythmic qualities of sound.
