Hörbar: ECollective Ensemble

Hörbar: ECollective Ensemble Doors 19:00 Concerts 20:00 ECollective Ensemble is a Hamburg-based group navigating the edges of free improvisation, where melody and rhythm serve as anchors amidst moments of chaos and abstraction. Over the past two years, the ensemble has cultivated a shared language rooted in deep listening, spontaneity, and a curiosity for where sound can lead. Their practice embraces both structure and unpredictability, resulting in music that feels exploratory yet grounded. Collaborations have included acclaimed drummer Moritz Baumgärtner at JazzHall Hamburg, and celebrated dancer Annick Schadeck for a performance at the Kunsthalle Hamburg. For their appearance at Hörbar, ECollective will improvise a live soundtrack to film — a fleeting dialogue between moving images and sound. For their appearance at Hörbar, ECOllective will improvise a live soundtrack to Nosferatu (1922), the silent horror classic directed by F. W. Murnau. Due to copyright issues, the film was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula and remains one of the most influential works of early cinema. Most of its original score, composed by Hans Erdmann, has been largely lost to time, making Nosferatu a compelling canvas for contemporary musicians to reinterpret. In its original screenings, the film was accompanied by a live orchestra —a practice that ECOllective Ensemble continues, bringing a modern sensibility to this historic tradition. Their improvisations become a fleeting dialogue with the film, offering sound as speech, breath, and shadow. Julia Langenbucher (sax), Carmen Kleykens Vidal (cello), Martín Zamorano (p), Danica Hobden (git) Joshua Weiß (dr).
