Audible Instances at Westwerk: Costa / Trilla / Hughes

Audible Instances at Westwerk Anti-Archetypal Hugo Costa: alto saxophone John Hughes: double bass Vasco Trilla: drum set Hugo Costa and Vasco Trilla approach free improvisation with an emphasis on spontaneity and focused deep-listening. Thier musical vocabulary embraces the unexpected: exploring textural, rhythmic sound fields with developmental arcs patiently unfolding. In this May edition of Audible Instances, Costa and Trilla will expand the duo into a trio, featuring local double bassist John Hughes. Hughes, Costa, and Trilla have played and worked together in other formations, this evening will be a first in this line-up. Hugo Costa is a Portuguese saxophonist based in Rotterdam. Costa focuses on the fringes of music between free improvisation and composed avant-garde music. His playing imbues a melodic abstraction and a shifting harmonic tonality by using extended and natural saxophone techniques. Costa has toured Europe and Asia extensively and works in projects ranging from free jazz, jazzcore, and free improvisation in bands such as Albatre, Anticlan, Costa/Ernsting, and Costa/ Lumley /Škorić. https://hugocosta.bandcamp.com/ Vasco Trilla is one of the most active, versatile and creative drummers of the Barcelona scene. He has recorded more than 100 albums ranging from free improvisation, jazz rock to progressive rock metal and ambient music. The key attributes of his success seem to consist of the three factors: imagination, cross-genre experience in performing music and the constant search for expanding the limits of the instrument. In recent years, he has become one of the most solid and in-demand voices of the European free improvised scene. https://vascotrilla.com Doors 19:30 Showtime 20:30 Photos Hugo: Rene Bradwolff John: Markus Bak Vasco: Tomek Gawdzik Mit freundlicher Unterstützung des VaMH.
