Bromp Treb is the Los Angeles-based artist Neil Young aka Neil ‘Cloaca’ Young. Bromp Treb is a nonsense onomatopoeia for the rattling windows of a jalopy with an overenthusiastic subwoofer. Young’s sounds and perfor- mances are the sputterings of refined dysfunction and eager uncertainty, coaxed from an improvised maze of crooked rhythms and tangled textures made from voice/body, synthesis, tapes, percussion, and the occasional whiff of physical comedy. Nicola L. Hein is a sound artist, guitarist, composer, and researcher in the field of music aesthetics and cybernetics. His work is determined by the interaction of sound, space, light, movement, and the emergent dynamics of aesthetic systems.
