Ostendorf / Gouband / Hughes
Audible Instances at Westwerk duo Toma Gouband: percussion Nils Ostendorf: trumpet Ostendorf and Gouband skillfully create free, spontaneous song structures, balancing concepts of duration, timbre, and harmony. The duo develops a playful yet driving music characterized by virtuosic polyrhythms and alternative tuning systems. Toma Gouband is a musician, improviser, inventor, researcher, and composer. He plays on an arranged drum set a music using sounding stones and other raw objects he gleaned. Attracted by the study of numbers and proportions, Toma develops a way of thinking that enables him to apprehend polyrhythmic phenomena. His approach to composition is generative, it emanates from his research and aims to give everyone the opportunity to create their own way and express themselves through their own language. Nils Ostendorf's works explore the intersection between noises, sounds and tones, placing particular emphasis on temporality, spatiality and immersiveness. He is an internationally renowned trumpet player in the field of experimental music who has toured extensively in Europe, North and South America. Nils has released numerous records of experimental music and has composed over 50 theatre scores for the directors Thomas Ostermeier, Falk Richer, Marius von Mayenburg, Yael Ronen and Mikael Serre, premiring works at major European theatres. + solo John Hughes: double bass Moving seemlessly between composition and uncharted sonic terrain. + trio Ostendorf / Hughes / Gouband Mit freundlicher Unterstützung vom Verband für aktuelle Musik Hamburg und der Behörde für Kultur und Medien Hamburg. https://www.nilsostendorf.com/ https://www.astropi.com/tomagouband/ https://www.johnhughes.info/ Photo Credits John Hughes: Gunnar Lettow Nils Ostendorf: Hannes Meier Toma Gouband: Jeff Humbert
