18:00 Presentation Ellen Arkbro 20:00 Portrait concert Ellen Arkbro w/ Zinc & Copper 21:30 Ellen Arkbro solo: CHORDS for guitar On the second festival day klub katarakt is presenting Swedish composer Ellen Arkbro in two concerts. Ellen Arkbro (b. 1990) represents a young generation of musicians dealing with minimalism and overtones. Her music examines harmonic intervals in just intonation, continuing the work of her teachers La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela as well as Marc Sabat. She is also exploring historical tuning systems like mean temperament. Her work includes long duration compositions for ensembles as well as electronic sound environments in the form of installations and live-performances, employing both traditional acoustic instruments as well as digital algorithmic sound synthesis. klub katarakt has commissioned a new work by Arkbro for brass and electronics, which will be premiered by Berlin-based ensemble Zinc & Copper. Two other pieces will be played as well. Zinc & Copper is a trio of horn, trombone and tuba founded by Robin Hayward in 2005. It forms the basis for a variable ensemble of brass instruments, distinguished by its innovative and pioneering approach. Arkbro will perform solo in the night concert, playing electric guitar and computer. Starting the evening, she will talk about her music in a panel discussion.
